Deputy Chief Counsel The candidate will be the chief legal counsel and responsible for the overall management of all legal issues relating to firm and the effectiveness of the Legal Affairs department for firm, report to the General Counsel for Media Networks. Will work collaboratively with, and serve as the primary advisor to, senior management of firm on all legal matters, and will be expected to provide guidance and direction reflecting sound judgment, strategic vision, and substantive legal knowledge and expertise. Be directly involved in managing significant, complex, and/or precedent-setting legal issues for firm, as well as significant policy and personnel issues that arise within the department. Work closely with corporate legal departments, senior corporate leadership, and others in handling these matters. Serve as the senior subject matter expert for firm Legal Affairs. Provide advice and guidance to senior management of firm regarding all legal matters, policy and personnel issues that arise within the Legal Affairs department. Provide direction and oversight of all deal-related, strategic and compliance issues related to the production of original material. Lead and manage a team of lawyers, credit administrators, clearance administrators and assistants. Ensure proper processes and workflow occurs within the team and in partnership with Business Affairs. Deliver formal and informal feedback to team members on a regular basis. Strive to create a culture of employee engagement and empowerment. Work closely with the Litigation Department and outside counsel on litigation matters relating to all aspects of the firm business, including distribution, production, labor, music, tax and clearances. Work closely with the corporate Intellectual Property group, outside counsel in managing all intellectual property issues relating to firm, including anti-piracy, show name, channel and character clearance, patent, trademark and music issues. Manage all privacy issues for firm, and coordinate with the corporate Privacy group to implement relevant standards and best practices, and manage crisis situations. Coordinate with the corporate Tax Department on tax issues for firm, working often in this regard with Business Affairs. Partner effectively and work closely with Labor Relations and Business Affairs on high-level and strategic labor issues that confront firm. Manage all legal matters relating to firm content and its distribution via the Affiliate Sales and Marketing Group and Media Networks Distribution Legal Group. Manage all legal issues arising out of shared services departments, including the Research, Operations, IT, Finance, Traffic, and Brand Services departments. Call upon and relied on by the General Counsel as a key advisor in forging strategy for the segment and in resolving the most significant segment-related issues.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate should have a JD Degree and Law degree from top law school. Must have Bar Membership (California is preferred) and 15-20 years of experience in Legal Affairs in the entertainment industry. Experience as a lawyer within a law firm plus experience as the lead lawyer within a company is required. Experience in managing and motivating a highly experienced team of lawyers, paralegals, assistants, and staff is needed. Studio or production company experience is preferred. Knowledge about the television studio business and legal issues is needed.
