Business Development Manager (Energy) Responsibilities: Work proactively with the Section Chair and attorneys to develop and implement strategic business development and marketing initiatives. Act as an advisor to Section Chair, practice group leaders and individual attorneys in identifying business development opportunities with new and existing clients and evaluating, monitoring and tracking business development plans and efforts on an ongoing basis. Help Section attorneys to understand and drive the client acquisition process. Research prospects, industries, markets, competitors and existing clients, utilizing firm-wide resources and online databases. Perform detailed competitive intelligence and opportunity assessments and make recommendations to the Section Chair and/or the individual attorneys. Be responsible for survey submissions involving the Energy Law Section and the firm’s overall energy practice. Be responsible for the Section’s website and marketing collateral content. Manage the Section’s proposal process, including drafting, editing and assembling proposals, pitches and other business development presentation materials; track results. Identify opportunities to promote and market the Energy Law Section as a whole and the Section’s individual attorneys. Develop and manage the Section’s budgeting and track business development and marketing expenses. Proactively work with other departments and resources in the firm to gather data and information relevant to business development initiatives for the Section. Prepare and catalog marketing collateral and general capabilities materials. Perform maintenance tasks associated with marketing database, which includes managing data change, importing contacts and tracking business development and marketing activities. Serve as liaison between Events Manager and attorneys for client seminars, attorney speaking engagements, special events and other marketing initiatives, as required, and manage the appropriate follow-up to each of these initiatives. In partnership with the firm’s Director of Marketing, manage the Energy Law Section’s marketing and public relations activities and serve as point of contact person for local organizations, associations and vendors as appropriate. Monitor local and national publications for articles of interest and legal trends and circulate to relevant attorneys as appropriate. Drive and manage special projects as assigned. Be available for travel to other offices.

Qualification and Experience

Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in business, marketing or communications preferred. JD Degree or MBA is a plus. 7-10 years of experience in business development and marketing. Energy industry experience required. Proven track record of success in business development. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Excellent relationship-building capabilities, including superior interpersonal skills with the ability to be flexible and work with all levels of attorneys, management and staff. Detail-oriented with superior organizational skills. Ability to proactively strategize, plan and execute projects seamlessly. Experience in budgeting and budget management. Strong work ethic and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment. Demonstrated good judgment, decision-making and time management with follow-through capabilities. Ability to prioritize effectively and handle multiple deadlines. Ability to collaborate and work in a team environment with a client service focus. Technically savvy and a creative thinker.
