Manager, Wildlife Permitting The candidate will report to the Director, Wildlife Permitting. Provide environmental support for wind and solar development and project operations. Develop environmental study and permitting strategies for specific projects with consultation from various stakeholders across the organization. Manage complex environmental processes within the Company and with outside consultants, and oversee the development of necessary documents for compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements. Conduct environmental and permitting due diligence for development and acquisition opportunities. Lead federal and state land and wildlife agency communication and coordination. Review technical reports with attention on use of best available science, clear and accurate presentation of scientific information and quality of analysis. Reports typically include: habitat evaluations, desktop environmental screenings, threatened/endangered/sensitive species surveys, avian and bat use surveys, raptor nest inventories, post-construction monitoring studies, conservation plans, and environmental impact statements. Write letters, reports and/or sections of reports or permit applications, project descriptions, results of environmental analysis, mitigation measures, conservation strategies, compliance, and other documents to support project development and operational compliance. Participate in regional and national initiatives, symposia, conferences, and industry groups as needed to achieve Company objectives.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should preferably have Master’s degree in biological science/natural resources or law degree (with environmental emphasis). Must have 5+ years of experience with energy project permitting and environmental review. Experience working with state and federal wildlife agencies, and demonstrated understanding of federal natural resource laws (NEPA and/or ESA) required. Excellent writing, verbal, and analytical skills necessary. Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail required.
