Wage and Hour Investigator- GS-1849-07 The candidate will work for Department Of Labor. Will work inside the bargaining unit. While under the guidance of a higher level Investigator employee observes and participates in a variety of applications of the provisions of the laws enforced by Wage and Hour in diverse situations, and the use of varied compliance techniques including education and persuasion, conciliation, investigation, and negotiation. Employee conducts complete investigations involving familiar issues and situations to resolve a wide variety of minimum wage, overtime, child labor, coverage, exemption, employment eligibility and other compliance issues in agriculture, commercial, industrial, and other business establishments, public institutions, and domestic service in households. Duties: Reviews available file material pertinent to cases assigned, perform necessary research, and seek necessary guidance to become familiar with all aspects of the case; Conducts designated phases of complex investigations, or conducts complete investigations on repetitive assignments to develop information and evidence through such means as interviews, observation, and examination of business records; Gathers and analyzes facts obtain, and determines status of compliance, including the nature and extent of any violations that may be found; Obtains compliance and correction of minor violations and negotiates for payment of back wages within prescribed monetary limitations; and, Prepares case investigation file, including supporting forms and narrative report, for submission to the supervisor or a higher level of compliance specialist.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate should have following qualifications:
GS-07 level: Bachelor's degree and one of the following superior academic achievement provisions: A grade point average of B (a GPA of 3.0 or higher) for all completed undergraduate courses, or those completed in the last 2 full years of undergraduate study; or A grade point average of B+ (a GPA of 3.5 or higher) for all courses in major field of study, or those courses in major completed in the last two years of undergraduate study; or Rank in the upper one-third of your class in the college, university, or major subdivision; or Membership in a national honor society (other than freshman honor societies) recognized by the Association of College Honor Societies and/or Baird's Manual of American College Fraternities. Note: If more than 10 percent of undergraduate course work (credit hours) was taken on a pass/fail or similar basis, claim must be based on class standing or membership in an honor society. One full year of graduate level study, or a master's or higher degree, such as LL.B., J.D., LL.M., Ph.D., in industrial relations, personnel administration, or other fields related to the position such as business administration, labor economics, or law. An academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 academic year of full-time study. This determination is made based on normal course loads for a full year of study in the graduate program. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours or 27 quarter hours should be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement. Part-time graduate education is creditable in accordance with its relationship to a year of full-time study at the school attended. 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 grade level in the federal service performing all of the following: applying legal or regulatory provisions, precedents, and principles to specific investigative matters; obtaining compliance of business enterprises and/or State and local governments with the provisions of Federal labor laws, regulations, and orders; and analyzing written/verbal information and numerical data to make decisions on issues based on interviews, records review, reconstruction of missing or fraudulent records. Must have a combination of the type of graduate education as described above.
