Employment Attorney Duties: Handle an employment law caseload that involves the range of legal advocacy, from direct negotiation and resolution of cases, to collaboration with the DOL or AG’s office on investigations, to multi-plaintiff federal court litigation. Work closely with members and organizers to envision and implement strategic affirmative litigation projects and other leverage strategies that strengthen worker organizing. Provide technical legal support for employment-related policy and organizing campaigns, including, drafting legislation; training other staff and members on the legal aspects of campaigns; lobby visits; drafting materials (for the press, funders, the membership, elected, and/or other advocates) on key policy campaigns and victories; and press work.
Qualification and Experience
Requirements: Admission (or eligibility for admission) to practice law in New York State or the possibility of waiving into the state. Spanish language fluency. 3+ years of experience practicing employment law, preferably wage and hour. Experience working with populations that make up major portions of firm’s membership – such as documented and undocumented immigrants, women facing domestic violence, members of LGBTQ communities, and youth.
