Senior Counsel, Employment Law The candidate will understand the strategic and tactical objectives of the business units or functions served and the associated legal implications of business plans and processes. Will develop long and short-term solutions that take into account the current and future needs of the business. Provide leadership through leveraging of business and industry information to enable the business or region in identifying and solving business issues. Take leadership roles among in-house counsel and other legal professionals, outside counsel and client personnel on specific initiatives, projects or goals. Delegate, obtain resources or take actions that move projects to closure while maximizing personnel and business unit effectiveness. Effectively and cost efficiently manage and direct outside counsel as needed to support execution of projects, transactions or matters. Provide training and guidance to other attorneys and support staff and to the businesses served in specialized area of knowledge. Act as a mentor for less experienced attorneys and non-attorney members of the Law Department. Substantial contributor to attracting, developing and retaining employees.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have a JD Degree or international equivalent from a nationally or internationally recognized institution. Must have 8+ years of demonstrated professional experience, including 2+ years of experience in a corporate environment with a high level of complexity, or substantially equivalent direct counseling experience. Preferably, prior experience counseling clients in healthcare (medical products, biologics, and/or pharmaceutical) environment. Experience in leading and developing formal or informal teams of legal professionals and Prior experience with M&A due diligence pertaining to employment matters both US and OUS is needed. Significant experience in defending and/or managing federal, state and local employment litigation and administrative charges or claims throughout the US is essential. Prior experience in developing and leading employment law training and drafting employment law policies to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local employment laws is required. Significant prior experience in counseling business clients with respect to all major federal employment laws (e.g., Title VII, ADA, ADEA, FMLA, FLSA, WARN, OFCCP) is needed and preferably, some experience with IL, CA, NC, AK, IN, FL, NY and/or MS state and local employment laws is preferred.
