Employment Law Manager The candidate serves as legal advisor on Employment law issues to HR and business leaders in the region and to internal legal personnel. In addition, the role provides legal support on complex employee relations matter and employment law projects. Provide counsel and advice on US employment laws including Title VII, FMLA, ADA, FLSA and ADEA. Provide strategic support to employee relations and pre-litigation matters, in conjunction with Employee Relations team and external counsel and working in close collaboration with the North American litigation team. Act as legal advisor and educator to business leaders, HR, Inclusion and Diversity, Marketing, Recruiting and other legal professionals, on managing risk associated with employment laws in the region. Contribute to development of internal policies, guidelines, toolkits, and packaged knowledge on Employment legal and business issues for the North America region. Support strategic employment law projects throughout North America, advising HR, Legal and business operations management as appropriate, and develop guidelines and templates for internal clients. Provide operational and strategic support to Procurement in relation to risks associated with contractors. Maintain and execute Legal regulatory and compliance initiatives regarding employment law, including updating policies and processes to reflect legal developments. Manage and oversee outside counsel relationships with law firms in the region, including managing the budget. Stay abreast of legal developments affecting the company, its clients, and industries and synthesize the information to incorporate it into company's practices. Counsel, guide, train and support junior through senior levels of Legal attorneys within region as appropriate. Foster seamless integration and teaming relationships with the other Compliance, Operations, Regulatory and Ethics ("CORE") Legal Services teams as well as with all teams in Legal Contracting Services in the Geography/Country. Support, promote, and implement initiatives as part of Legal team, specifically the CORE compliance efforts, activities, and projects.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have law degree / Juris Doctor with 3 years of experience practicing employment law as an attorney. Knowledge of Canadian employment laws is preferred. Experience advising management of large companies is desired. Experience assessing worker classifications, including strong working knowledge of the FLSA and independent contractor law is preferred. Should have preferably experience conducting HR audits. Must have in-depth knowledge of labor and employment law across the United States. Should demonstrates sound judgment, ability to prioritize and make decisions, and identify risks before they materialize. Excellent oral and written communication skills are needed. Should have ability to work with personnel both internally and externally across the world.
