Attorney I, 5CA Duties: The candidate will advice to and representation of the State Bar Board of Trustees, committees and staff in administrative and civil trial and appellate litigation and transactional work in substantive areas such as: Bar discipline and admissions; labor and employment; copyright; real estate; contracts; regulatory work; governance; public records and open meeting laws; and general corporate matters.Reports to Executive Staff, Supervising Attorney. Supervises: Clerical Staff as assigned. Performs entry level legal work and assists with the identification of legal issues, recommendations of appropriate action, resolution of legal problems, interpretation and application of laws, rules, regulations and other legal authorities, performs legal research. Assists with analyzing and preparing opinions, legal documents, memoranda, presentations and case/project management, and assists in the formulation, determination and effectuation of management policies in the administration of employee and labor relations, and is responsible for maintaining confidentiality concerning such matters. Responsible for assignments of a legal nature, with the expectation of producing favorable results. Studies, interprets, and applies laws, court decisions, and other legal authorities, and assists with the preparation, of legal documents, pleadings, memoranda, reports, opinions, and other materials. Assists in preparing for and completing cases, projects, presentations, and other assignments. Coordinates with judges, other attorneys, volunteers, and other constituencies, as assigned. Takes timely steps to present such issues, together with recommendations for decisions, to superiors. Assists with preparing opinions and legal documents and advises staff and appropriate parties on legal issues within the assigned area. Provides legal advice, counsel, and other legal services. Perform other similar or related duties which may not be specifically included within this position description, but which are consistent within the general level of the job and the responsibilities.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: The candidate should be an active member, in good standing, of the State Bar of California. Active membership in the State Bar of California Accomplished computer keyboarding skills is essential. Knowledge of effective investigation techniques and presentation of matters to administrative bodies, Principles of effective work coordination and strong case/project management, Principles of effective client relations, Principles of effective client relations is essential. strong writing and oral communication skills is essential. Strong legal research and writing skills is essential. Knowledge of the rules and regulations governing the practice of law in the State of California is essential.
