Counsel, Employment - Limited Term Duties: A member of the Employment, Labor and Benefits service team in the Office of the General Counsel. Assists the Assistant General Counsel, other more senior attorneys, and members of management by providing legal counsel on a range of topics relating to Employment Law. Performing legal research, identifying new or emerging areas of risk, and managing or providing support on specific legal projects. Provide legal advice and monitor compliance with employment laws and regulations, and participate in formal and informal training and preventive law activities. Counsel is responsible for assisting in the development of new policies and procedures, and providing updates and advice on policies. Will also respond to administrative charges and letters from plaintiffs' counsel as well as conduct and advise on investigations. Counsel will represent the company at hearings and alternative dispute resolution procedures, as well as manage the work and litigation strategy of outside counsel. works independently with general supervision and direction from the AGC in furtherance of department goals and the strategic plan.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: JD Degree from an accredited law school. A member in good standing with the State Bar of California is required, or ability to register as in-house counsel in California. 4-6 years of significant employment law experience, including with state and federal disability accommodation regulations, leaves of absence, wage-hour, discrimination/harassment, retaliation, reductions in force, employee privacy, employment issues in organizational transitions, or some combination of these, including primary and independent responsibility for significant projects and litigation. Experience working with healthcare and not-for-profit clients is preferred. Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as the ability to translate legal complexities into terms readily understood by management and line personnel. Must have ability to work in a fast paced complex organization and demonstrate strong client management and project management skills as well as the ability to work successfully both independently and within a team. Term 65 weeks.
