Executive/Senior Level Officials and Managers Duties: Providing legal support to the company on all employment matters. Stepping into a newly created role, this lawyer will have responsibility for developing, leading and advising on a range of employment issues. Report to the Chief Legal Officer and Chief Human Capital Officer. Advising human resources departments and attorneys on day-to-day legal concerns and consequences; Participating in the development of policies and programs in all areas of employment law, including wage and hour matters, discipline, counseling and discharge, all aspects of laws regarding discrimination, wrongful termination, defamation, emotional distress, OSHA, FMLA, reductions-in-force, drug testing issues, etc.; Maintaining working knowledge of company policies and state and federal legislation; Responding to attorney letters, complaints or claims involving employment-related concerns; Managing outside counsel in handling employment litigation and reducing the costs associated with outside counsel; Advising human resources departments and operating business managers on pending changes in employment laws; Partnering with attorneys in the department to address Company-wide employment issues and preparing employment-related forms; Managing non-compete matters; and Participating, as appropriate, in compliance.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: JD Degree from a respected law school, with a strong academic record. Admission to a U.S. state bar with an active license, and compliance with requirements for in-house practice in the State of Illinois. 7+ years of experience as an employment attorney, which ideally combines law firm training with in-house counsel experience on a wide range of employment matters and employment litigation. Excellent interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills. Flexibility and willingness to work on a broad range of legal issues. Ability to prioritize tasks and work effectively in a fast-paced environment. Must be willing to perform all levels of work and be hands-on when necessary. Strong ethical background and commitment to integrity. Very strong attention to detail and follow-through; excellent organizational skills. Must be able to travel when required.
