Senior Counsel - Employment Law The candidate will be responsible for providing legal advice in connection with the full range of employment law issues. This includes the following: Counseling business lines and management and working to minimize legal risks in connection with the full range of employment law issues, including hirings, terminations, and other employment actions; Advising on employment contracts, and drafting and negotiating such agreements, including termination agreements, non-competes, retention agreements, etc.; Handing employment-related disputes and litigation, including pre-litigation matters and potential disputes, and managing outside counsel in connection these matters; Responding to charges and complaints filed with federal, state or local administrative agencies; Conducting and/or coordinating internal investigations relating to employment law matters; Working closely with the HR Department to advise on legal issues and training HR staff and managers on employment relations issues and potential legal risks; Recommending, drafting and revising policies and procedures in connection with industry standards, employment regulations, etc., in the financial services industry; Coordinating with and advising HR department at home office (in Paris) on US employment law issues and other cross-border employment issues; Providing advice in connection with legal aspects of benefits plans, including deferred compensation matters; Coordinating immigration advice function with outside counsel; Providing training on relevant legal and employment issues and coordinating with HR on the larger firm training program; Handling significant legal/employment projects, e.g., reductions in force, hiring/retention initiatives, etc.; Working closely with the business lines and HR to minimize legal risks.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate must be member, New York State Bar; law degree from a well-regarded US law school. Should have Undergraduate degree from a well-regarded 4-year college/university. Should have substantial experience with employment litigation. Must have expertise regarding all applicable employment and labor laws. Should have strong litigation and negotiation skills. Must have strong substantive knowledge relating to HR/employment policies; familiarity with ERISA and governed plans. Familiarity with immigration law is needed. Must have ability to work independently as well as with other members of the Legal Department and other areas of the firm. Should have ability to manage a project team for specific objectives. Should have 12+ years of professional legal experience at a law firm and/or with an in-house legal department with substantial expertise in employment law and employment litigation/client-counseling. Desired/Plus: In-house experience with financial services firm or experience with law firm that represents financial services industry in employment-related matters. Experience with an international employment law issues. Knowledge of labor relations, psychology is desired. Languages: English; French (Plus).
