Assistant Senior Counsel - Employment Law Duties: Empowered to work cross-functionally and partner closely with the business on a variety of issues. Advise human resources and other internal clients on the legal rights and obligations of the company on a broad array of employment law issues. Advises US Human Resources and Takeda managers on various employment matters including, harassment, discrimination, family and/or medical leaves of absence, compensation, and/or disability accommodations. Represent Takeda in agency proceedings regarding federal, state, and local agency charges of discrimination, retaliation, or other employment-related allegations. Respond to claims for unpaid wages. Respond to attorney letters regarding unfair or illegal employment matters. Develop and review employee policies and procedures. Develop and conduct manager training. Direct and manage Takeda’s Affirmative Action Plan responsibilities. Draft and/or revise compensation, benefit, and/or severance Plan documents, as needed. Retain and manage outside counsel on matters, as appropriate.

Qualification and Experience

Qualifications: JD Degree. 4 year of experience in employment law. Licensed to practice law – Illinois license preferable (other states considered). Must receive Limited Admission as House Counsel in Illinois within one year of hire, if not already admitted to practice in Illinois. Strong understanding of the various federal, state, and local employment and labor laws, including, Title VII, Section 1981, FMLA, FLSA, ADA, ADEA, OSHA, and NLRA. Experience representing clients in agency fact-finding conferences and mediations. Experience drafting and negotiating severance and/or settlement agreements. Experience drafting employee policies and/or handbooks. Group training and/or public speaking experience. Employment litigation experience strongly preferred. Experience and understanding of business immigration matters preferred. Experience and understanding of ERISA preferred.
