Vice President and Associate General Counsel The candidate will report to the Senior Vice President, General Counsel. Will provide leadership, oversight, direction and guidance to the department's attorneys supporting the nine (9) hospitals in the system, physician enterprise, the outpatient practices, and other ancillary businesses of the organization. Support the Human Resources function of the organization and provide legal advice and counsel to the Chief Human Resource Officer and Senior Business Partners, and actively interact with leadership throughout the 9 hospital system and other ancillary business units on employment and other legal matters. Job responsibilities will include: management, oversight, direction and guidance to direct reports; education initiatives relating to employment practices; responding to EEOC and IDHR charges and other complaints; conducting investigations, writing position statements, attending mediations and settlement conferences; drafting, reviewing, negotiating and providing legal analysis of a broad range of contracts and other legal documents; analyzing legal and factual issues while conducting legal research to resolve common operational concerns; and participate in various strategic and operational initiatives on a wide variety of healthcare/legal matters, as requested.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have a J.D. degree. Should be licensed to practice law in the State of Illinois. Must have 10+ years of experience as a practicing attorney handling complex legal matters and working with healthcare clients in a law firm or in-house hospital legal department or combination thereof (some healthcare experience required), or specializing in job required expertise. Labor and employment training/experience is preferred. Strong contract negotiation and drafting skills are desired.
