Regulatory Attorney The candidate will participate in regulatory proceedings in state utility commissions to advocate for electric and natural gas deregulation and the creation of rules and procedures that facilitate fair and competitive deregulated energy markets. Assume primary responsibility for representing energy regulatory matters in assigned states and other states as needed. Represent the company in litigation and rulemaking proceedings before public utilities commissions in geographic areas where the company provides retail electric and natural gas service, including Ohio, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Michigan, Maryland, New York, Massachusetts, California, and Texas. Assist in maintaining company’ compliance with the rules and regulations in the states in which the company operates. Draft mass-market sales contracts and research laws and rules that relate to compliance issues. Perform various business and legal functions for a number of company’s non-core businesses, including generation, compressed natural gas fueling, and home services. Juris Doctorate degree from an ABA accredited law school and 3+ years of legal experience and be admitted to practice law in at least one jurisdiction in which the company does business, preferably Ohio, Pennsylvania, or Illinois required. Experience with working with utilities commissions, legislators and other regulatory bodies preferred. Strong oral and written communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills required. Excellent writing, analytical, and litigation skills required. Trial experience, background in economics, and understanding of competitive retail and wholesale natural gas and electric markets preferred. Proficiency with Microsoft word and excel required.
