Director of Legal Affairs & Title IX Coordinator Duties: Responsible for providing a broad range of services and legal support to the College. Monitoring and advancing the College's compliance with Title IX, Clery, FERPA and SaVE Acts. Plays a key role in the College's efforts to provide and maintain a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for all members of the College community. Reports to the Vice President for Business and Finance and provides strategic guidance, consultation, and support to senior College administrators and other members of management on a comprehensive range of legal and associated issues. Provides legal counsel and guidance to Senior Management Team members on all non-student related legal matters. Reviewing legal issues and trends affecting higher education, drafting and negotiating a variety of contracts, interpreting federal, state, local policies and procedures, drafting and reviewing College policies. Drafts, reviews, and approves policies and procedures, regulations, bylaws, and other legal documents. Reviews contracts, leases, and other legal documents; researches legal issues and recommends revisions. Provides training to the campus community on various legal issues through seminars and meetings. Communicates with the College's outside legal counsel and coordinates work of outside counsel. Oversees overall Title IX compliance; Appoints, trains, and supervises Title IX investigators and any deputy coordinators; Oversees the three objectives identified in the 2011 DCL, including the development and implementation of the College's Title IX policies and grievance procedures; investigation of complaints; and training and outreach; Acts as a liaison to community members involved in Title IX efforts (e.g. administrators, investigators, student conduct, victim services, public safety, health and counseling services, student affairs, human resources, faculty/academic affairs, athletics); Provides guidance and assistance to alleged victims of sexual violence and sex/gender discrimination including referral to support resources. Ensures the College's compliance with related laws such as the Clery Act, the Campus SaVE Act and FERPA; Provides assistance to school law enforcement regarding response to complaints. Oversees the development and dissemination of educational materials, including brochures, posters, and web-based materials that inform members of the campus community of Title IX rights, responsibilities and resources both within and external to the campus.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: Master's degree in a relevant discipline or a J.D. degree from an accredited law school preferred. Previous experience overseeing and conducting complaint investigations and grievances required. Knowledge of and ability to interpret federal and state equal opportunity and non-discrimination laws and regulations, including Title IX and other applicable laws and regulations. Ability to develop and implement educational and training programs, with strong presentation and facilitation skills, and the ability to adapt those skills to a variety of audiences. Strong organizational, planning, analytical, and problem solving skills, and excellent oral and written communications skills and interpersonal skills desired.
