Associate General Counsel Candidate will serve as an in-house attorney providing legal counsel and work product to University. Will manage the Division of General Counsel, and provide leadership as well as legal services in support of the University’s mission. Ensure compliance with public laws and the governing Bylaws of the Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning, Board of Trustees. Draft, review, revise, and approve University policies and contracts. Manage litigation and draft legal pleadings in concert with outside counsel. Research and draft legal memorandums.
Qualification and Experience
Candidate should have a J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited law school and membership of the Mississippi Bar Association. Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws which affect Higher Education, including federal and state employment law is needed. 5+ years of progressively responsible and successful licensed experience in a legal practice with specific experience in employment law; Or 2 years of licensed experience practicing in the area of Mississippi public agency law, including public contracting, or where a significant portion of work, included providing legal counsel to one or more public institutions of higher learning is needed.
