Senior Associate General Counsel & Managing Attorney, Business Law The candidate will Manage attorneys and support staff, assigns projects, oversees and promotes high-caliber legal work, and maintains high client satisfaction. Together with the Vice Chancellor & General Counsel, the Associate Vice Chancellor & Deputy General Counsel, four other section managers and the Assistant to the Executive Officer, serves on OGC’s management team. Review proposed business and financial transactions to assure compliance with federal and Texas law and applicable UT System Regents’ Rules and UT System policies. Assist clients in structuring transactions within legal constraints, while achieving business needs. Conduct legal research and prepares written and oral legal opinions regarding compliance with federal and Texas laws and applicable UT System Regents’ Rules and UT System policies. Constantly communicate with clients and OGC leadership, attorneys and staff. Prepare, interpret and review sophisticated contractual and commercial documents and policies. Review proposed legislation and administrative regulations and communicates potential impacts to the Office of Governmental Relations. While based in UT System Administration’s Austin headquarters, travels within and outside Texas as necessary. Graduation from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association; admission to Texas Bar or, for out-of-state applicants licensed in another jurisdiction, Admission Without Examination to Texas Bar within six months of hire; 10+ years of experience in the licensed practice of law; 3+ years of experience managing attorneys or other professionals; knowledge of and experience with relevant state and federal contracting and procurement requirements.
