ProfileAssistant General Counsel Responsibilities : The candidate will be responsible for providing legal services to the Corporation and is organized by practice groups that generally conform to the Corporation’s lines of business (“LOBs”) and corporate staff areas, allowing the legal staff to work closely with specific groups on a daily basis. Analyzing and communicating changes/developments in the laws applicable to retirement plans (legislative, regulatory, case law). Legal compliance aspects of servicing clients and their retirement plans and other accounts. IRA custodial responsibilities. Tax and ERISA requirements applicable to qualified retirement plans, 403(b), 457 and other deferred compensation plans. ERISA requirements applicable to the financial services industry, such as prohibited transactions and exemptions and “plan asset” rules.
Qualification and Experience
Requirements : The candidate should have a JD Degree from an accredited law school. Must be licensed to practice law and a member in good standing in in the state/jurisdiction in which the position is based or otherwise in compliance with the in-house counsel registration rules of that state/jurisdiction. 10+ years' experience at a top-tier law firm or financial services firm experience. Experience with development and maintenance of retirement plan investment products and services (including brokerage, wrap and other investment management products and services, such as alternative investment vehicles and other pooled funds) offered through institutional asset management and wealth management channels. Marketing, sales and distribution to new and existing retirement clients. Securities law experience as applicable to a broad-based ERISA practice. A broad range of legal experience and skills and a high degree of commercial acumen commensurate with the need to provide general legal advice and counsel to product teams and management of a substantial and growing business. Demonstrable leadership skills and the ability to work with a diverse team of legal and other professionals. Interpersonal and networking skills necessary for effective interaction with business clients at all levels, other parts of the firm and external parties (including the development and maintenance of external counsel relationships). Strong analytical, organizational, communication and negotiating skills.
