Profile

Director Labor Relations/Legal PSW Division Duties: Serve as lead labor negotiator, and supervise the administration of labor agreements and jointly trusteed employee benefit plans. Represent the company in grievances and arbitrations. Work with business units in the enforcement of all Federal and state wage and hour equal opportunity, equal pay wage control, and other laws having to do with the work force of the corporation. Handle administrative charges and supervise labor related litigation within assigned area. Support business leaders in all of the above areas. Develop and implement strategy for employee benefits for unionized workforce, including health plans and retirement plans. Responsible for all relations with the unionized work force and their labor unions regarding terms and conditions of employment. Handle the processing of administrative charges. Ensure that collective bargaining and contract administration practices are performed within the prescribed laws and by company procedures. Monitors changes in state and Federal laws and apply such laws in assigned area. Handle employee and union grievances and arbitrations. Responsible for union relations at operating levels. Supervises litigation that has been referred to outside counsel. Coordinate with VP Human Resources to design and apply employee relations and labor relations policies which will best achieve the goals of the corporation. Represent the Company as a trustee on jointly trusteed employee benefit plans. Interface with other functional and department heads, retail banners, independent business distribution centers, and coordinates departmental efforts in the areas of labor relations. Participate in the formulation of broad policies and long-range goals, objectives, plans, programs, and projects. Respond to employee and guest complaints regarding labor related matters. Provide advice to store, division, and general office management on employee discipline, labor relations, negotiations, and litigation strategies. Provide technical assistance to other departments as required. Makes recommendations to the VP Human Resources on personnel actions regarding hiring, terminations, layoffs, promotions, and salary increases. Review and evaluate work of subordinates and prepare performance reports. Maintain formal and informal channels of upward communication; encourage the expression of new ideas, suggestions, and complaints. Review them for appropriateness and further action. Confer with and advises subordinates on administrative policies and procedures, technical problems, priorities, and methods.

Qualification and Experience

Requirements: Law degree preferred. Labor law and negotiations experience required. Employee benefits experience strongly preferred. Knowledge of governmental regulations and all laws relating to employment and employee relations. Basic understanding of general business economic principles. Excellent public relations and communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to deal effectively with a variety of Company and outside personnel. Ability to work with and through others to achieve desired results.
