ERISA Attorney - Chief Compliance Officer / Health Plan Compliance / ACA / HIPAA The candidate will be responsible for conducting and overseeing research, development of "simple to understand" education materials, as well as presentation to our partner community and their clients. will stay on top of changes in regulatory requirements, interpret their meaning and effect on our partner community, and assist them in keeping up with the curve. Reviews government releases regarding health plan compliance and health care reform and provide UBA Partner Firms and their clients with regular summaries and updates. Assists UBA Partner Firms with questions regarding health care reform and other group health compliance issues. Reviews federal legislative and regulatory welfare benefit plan compliance requirements and provide UBA Partner Firms and their clients with timely and accurate alerts, notices and advice. Maintains the PPACA summary to track Health Care Reform. Maintains sole discretion over content to be disseminated. Oversees and conducts, as well as provides administrative staff support, for employer webinar series. Monitors internal UBA Partner forums for compliance issues and advises UBA Partner Firms appropriately. Manages all internal and external welfare benefit plan compliance-related content for UBA. Manages vendor relationships that provide compliance alerts, compliance newsletter content, and web-based training. Designs and develops a comprehensive employee benefit plan compliance initiative and assists in creating welfare benefit plan compliance trainings for UBA Partner Firms. Staffs the "Legal and Compliance" and "Client Compliance Solutions" Committees. Works with outside counsel.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: J.D. Degree with 3 years related experience. An executive leader who can partner with the CEO and senior leadership team to develop the future strategy for the UBA compliance function. Experience with day to day benefits administration. Extensive knowledge of laws and regulations related to welfare benefit plans, including PPACA, ERISA, COBRA, and HIPAA. A thorough understanding of the insurance industry, particularly health plans. Experience with plan design, plan documents, self funded and private exchanges. Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills. Ability to transform complex regulations and laws into language that is easier for a wider audience to comprehend. Ability to read, analyze and interpret complex documents. Solid organizational and analytical abilities that result in the ability to manage multiple projects and make sound decisions. Management experience desired as opportunity exists for role to expand with leadership of 1-2 staff attorneys. Prior experience working with a volunteer board of directors preferred. Excellent customer service skills. Ability to be flexible. Ability to self-motivate and work independently. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team. Strong attention to detail. A passion and thorough understanding of all aspects of health plan compliance, and the effects of healthcare reform.
