Profile

Deputy Director The candidate will oversee the Court’s clinical, research, and planning departments, and will lead other new and current projects as requested by the Director. Oversee clinical, alternative sanctions, and potentially other departments. Coordinate research, planning, and reporting activities. Supervise staff of professionals including social workers, case managers, graduate-level interns, researchers, intake counselors and interns. Analyze public safety problems and craft responses to issues such as prostitution and human trafficking, youth offending, drugs, homelessness, LGBTQ criminalization, unemployment, and neighborhood disorder. Assist with strategic planning, program development, and fundraising through grant writing, grant management, and planning special events. Work with Midtown Community Court’s judge, court stakeholders and project staff to develop new policies, procedures, and social services sanctions. Write grant proposals, design data collection tools, report on deliverables, troubleshoot outcomes and create systems to reach target milestones. Administer the ongoing evaluation of social services and institute quality control programs to gauge program efficacy. Build and maintain partnerships with high-ranking government officials, philanthropic partners, not-for-profit agencies, advocacy groups, community residents, police and criminal justice agencies. Coordinate and lead special task forces and working groups on relevant issues such as homelessness, shoplifting, youth offending, and prostitution. Assist in the development and management of research projects. Troubleshoot court operations. Collaborate with onsite partner agencies in their provision of services to defendants and voluntary clients. Attend, as needed, some evening community and precinct council meetings. Make frequent presentations to court visitors and spearhead site visits. Develop and facilitate training for staff and partners. Supervise and lead additional teams as requested by the Director.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate must have advanced degree in law, public administration, social work, or a related discipline. Should have 3-4 years of post-graduate experience. Understanding of the social contexts surrounding criminal justice system-involvement is important. Excellent public speaking, communication and writing skills required. Supervisory experience is required. Criminal justice experience is preferred.
