Appellate Assistant Federal Public Defender The candidate will be responsible for handling appeals before the Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, including briefing and oral arguments. Duties will include: writing briefs, motions, and legal memoranda; as well as handling petitions for certiorari before the US Supreme Court; examining, analyzing and researching records and issues; performing legal research and preparing legal documents; assisting trial attorneys with all aspects of case preparation including research and writing and the preservation of arguments before the trial courts; supervising trial attorneys who are handling their own appeals; post-conviction and witness representation, and representation in other matters such as supervised release hearings and probation and parole hearings. Should be a graduate of an accredited law school and have admission and good standing in a State Bar. Must have 3+ years of experience practicing law. Should be licensed to practice law in the US District Court for the Southern District of Florida. Must be a member of the Florida Bar, or become so within one year after entrance on duty.
