Associate General Counsel Duties: Responsible for a wide range of enterprise-wide legal functions. Works across functional departments and legal disciplines to help drive the company’s growth and profitability, while simultaneously balancing the company’s legal and compliance obligations. Report to and assist the General Counsel in providing creative and practical counsel on a wide range of legal and corporate compliance matters involving the Esurance group of companies. A successful candidate will have extensive experience in at least five of the following areas: corporate and technology transactions, contract negotiation, insurance regulation, corporate governance, information security and privacy, intellectual property, litigation and advertising review/social media. Ensure the quality and timeliness of legal advice to internal business clients and senior management on a broad range of legal and regulatory matters. Manage, oversee and participate in drafting and negotiating a wide range of legal and commercial documents. Provide counsel regarding corporate transactions, regulatory matters, commercial contracts, corporate litigation and company policies, procedures and guidelines. Manage, oversee and participate in infringement monitoring and protecting the company’s intellectual property. Manage other legal department staff, including corporate attorneys.

Qualification and Experience

Qualifications: JD Degree required. Member in good standing of a state Bar. 6-10 years experience as an attorney in a law firm, corporation or both, with experience in insurance or financial services required. Solid judgment and business acumen and understanding of business operations and corporate governance issues. Self-motivated and efficient, with good business judgment and analytic skills. Forward-thinking and creative, with the confidence to present and advocate for the implementation of ideas. Able to explain complex, challenging issues in a clear manner to all levels of the organization, including senior management. Experience with and capable of leading projects, directing others and advising business on implementation of sound legal, regulatory and corporate compliance solutions. Ability to work directly with and gain the confidence of senior management. Demonstrated ability to make and stick to tough and potentially unpopular decisions. Clear understanding and adherence to ethical principles, company values, code of conduct and policies. Excellent writing skills, particularly to assist a non-legal audience in understanding complex legal and regulatory requirements. Self-motivated, and possess strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to lead as well as collaborate and function well in a team environment.
