ProfileLegal Specialist Responsibilities: Responsible for initiating and producing complex work at a high level of competence in one or more areas of law in support of attorneys and/or clients. Work product is self-directed and requires significant independent judgment and discretion. May include business/corporate/transactional work, health law, employment, litigation and website design, maintenance and management. Provides leadership and is considered an expert in one or more areas of law, educates and updates clients/departments on specific legal topics and may take the lead on significant projects. Participates in discussions and analysis of complex matters and provides recommendations with minimal attorney involvement.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: A four-year degree and a paralegal certificate from an American Bar Association (ABA) certified program; a bachelor’s degree from an ABA-approved paralegal educational program; or a JD Degree. Completion of PACE (Paralegal Advanced Competency Exam), other professional designations (advanced certification in specific practice area), or a Master's degree preferred. Completion of the Mayo Clinic Project Management Course or equivalent preferred. 5 years of relevant legal experience required. A J.D. degree may be substituted for required experience. A bachelor’s degree plus 5 years of relevant legal experience, including at least 3 years of senior-level paralegal experience, may be substituted for all previously-noted requirements. Advanced knowledge and understanding of practice areas, processes, procedures, rules and regulations is required.
