Business Court Staff Attorney DUTIES: Attends all Business Court hearings and performs legal research and writing for the legal issues presented in the Business Court case files. Researches established Business Courts regarding process, procedure, and potential drafting of legislation to accomplish continuation and possible expansion efforts. Reviews, studies, searches, and annotates laws, court decisions, documents, opinions, briefs, the settled record, case and transcripts, and related legal authorities to process business court matters. Prepares briefs, legal memoranda, and statement of issues involved, including appropriate suggestions or recommendations to the business court. Compiles references on laws and decisions necessary for legal business court determinations. Focuses on program administration, planning, and coordination with AOC Director, Judge and Court Clerk’s office. Including facilitating the review and transfer of appropriate cases into the Business Court docket. Maintain program records and statistics, serving as a public liaison, identifying and allocating resources for the Business Court, and working to strengthen and expand the Business Court’s reputation and docket. Organization of dockets and coordination with the Director of the Administrative Office of the Court, the Business Court Judge and her immediate staff as well as the county clerk’s office, regarding the Business Court. Requires travel for all conferences, speaking engagements and other outreach programs. Extensive court system management, e-filing and other IT processes requiring excellent proven organization and scheduling skills.

Qualification and Experience

QUALIFICATIONS: A college degree and completion of studies from an accredited law school with a JD Degree or its equivalent. Must be licensed to practice law in Tennessee. 5+ years of legal experience is required. Critical Thinking. Priority setting. Organizational agility. Integrity and trust. Politically savvy. Skills and Ability: Ability to communicate effectively in writing and also verbally; must speak publicly to audiences including the Bar Associations, Chambers of Commerce and Judicial Staff; write publications at the level of the Bar Journal and professional publications, ability to research complex legal problems or questions and apply legal principles; ability to represent the court in a respectful manner; ability to analyze, appraise and organize facts, evidence; legal documentation, and precedents in assigned cases; the ability to prepare reports, correspondence and instructions; and the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
