Legal Counsel, Credit and Collections The candidate coordinates legal strategy with business partners. Researches legal issues impacting legal strategy by identifying applicable statues, judicial decisions, codes, and legislative changes. Explains legal language in a manner understandable to business people. Files creditor’s rights lawsuits. Assesses likelihood of recovery on defaulted accounts. Conducts judgment debtor examinations. Secures assets subject to enforcement of the judgment by levy, garnishment and other lawful judicial remedies. Handles bankruptcy matters from proofs of claims to motion practices. Manages non-attorney support staff. Files and defends general civil litigation claims. Drafts and review business related agreements. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have a Juris Doctor degree from an American Bar Association accredited law school. A Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance or Economics preferred. Must be licensed to practice law in Georgia. Licensed to practice law in South Carolina desired. Should have 2-4 years of experience in a law firm or corporate legal department with experience in consumer finance/collections. Experience of preparing legal documentation and knowledge of FDCPA essential. Previous automotive sales and finance law experience preferred. Experience with real estate transactions, business contracts, and/or intellectual property desired. Must have computer literacy to include Data Entry, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
