Deputy General Counsel Responsibilities : The candidate will provide support as a high-level legal specialist in healthcare law primarily in the areas of regulatory law and complex business and professional contracting with an emphasis on compliance programs and enforcement. Will take responsibility for legal matters and direction for assigned hospital committees and departments. Will provide general guidance to the Associate General Counsel relating to conducting research assigned, investigation of facts, material gathering and preparation of legal documents. Will provide support to the General Counsel by conducting research and providing material necessary to support legal proceedings, formulate policies giving advice to department directors and administrators or other pertinent legal functions of the office.
Qualification and Experience
REQUIREMENTS : The candidate should have a Juris Doctorate and a Law Degree from an ABA accredited law school (preferably with extensive study in healthcare); One (1) years of law office or in house counsel experience or legal clerkship experience (preferably in a healthcare setting. Current member of the State of Texas Bar, or eligible to be admitted within one (1) year of employment. General Knowledge of HIPAA, EMTALA, Stark, Anti-Kickback laws and regulations required. Good written and verbal communication skills required. Some evening or weekend work will be required. Knowledge of State, Federal, and Joint Commission law and regulations. Ability to independently counsel client departments in matters of contract negotiation, drafting and performance, as well as other areas of law, in a timely and effective manner. Ability to focus on business goals and facilitate lawful resolutions and solutions to business, regulatory and professional issues. Researches statutes and codes. Prepares legal documents to include briefs, pleadings, contracts, correspondence and reports. Gathers and analyzes research data such as statutes, decisions, and legal articles, codes and other documents for education, legal advice and opinions. Investigates facts and law cases to determine course of actions. Attends and coordinates hospital staff and administration committee meetings.
