Legal Counsel Duties: Identify and assess legal and business risks of current commercial operations and processes. Collaborate with various business owners and legal colleagues to develop process improvements and operational policies with a focus on achieving efficiency gains. Provide legal support for various go to market endeavors, such as marketing campaigns, new product introductions, support and maintenance, SaaS, channel and alliance partner, and professional services within the business unit. Act as key advisor to business owners and senior business leaders with regard to various legal issues, including risk mitigation. Provide legal advice and support on customer license compliance issues and disputes. Manage alignment of work activities and key initiatives with overall priorities of the company's legal function. Provide negotiation and drafting support of inbound and outbound contracts to the software business as required. Qualification Requirements: An Advanced university degree in law (e.g. J.D. or LLB). 6-10 years of commercial legal experience at a law firm or in house. Established knowledge of software licensing and hosted solutions such as SaaS. Established knowledge of software compliance and audit functions. Established knowledge of legal considerations in software professional services and support and maintenance functions. Advanced knowledge of key business and contractual risks and strong ability to articulate same and develop mitigation strategies or solutions. Demonstrated ability to apply knowledge of laws and regulations to actual client matters. Ability to influence different functions and geographies and to build consensus where lines of authority may not be direct. Proficiency in seeking input from senior business management based upon articulate and succinct evaluation and recommendation. Strong communication skills (written, verbal, active listening). Ability to work independently and think creatively to resolve issues and challenges in real time. Project management skills that demonstrate a strong ability to lead innovation and change across teams.
