Executive Director, Business Development - Transactions Candidate will drive deal negotiation and execution and to lead deal teams to bring compelling therapeutic and technology assets into company and to consistently deliver on objectives. Deliver transactions across therapeutic and technology areas. Provide leadership and mentoring to business development professionals with less experience. Will be a resource for Search and Evaluation team members around the process and substance of deals. Partner with executives within company's Research Laboratories to establish and maintain strong strategic and executional alignment. Will routinely interface with and seek to influence Executive level management, both in executional aspects (presenting deals for consideration and approval), and also in relational aspects (this person will be expected to routinely interface with all early stage leaders within Merck Research Laboratories. Organize and lead deal teams to ensure maintain alignment with company's Research Laboratories partners, and also to deliver on intense, aggressive BD goals set by the corporation.
Qualification and Experience
Candidate should have Graduate degree (including Masters level) in a Life Sciences discipline or in Law or Business. MD or PhD in a Life Sciences discipline and MBA or JD degree is preferred. 8+ years of experience in Biotech or Pharmaceuticals industry, with 5+ years of applicable experience working in or closely with business development is needed. 10+ years of experience in Biotech or Pharmaceuticals industry, with 7+ years of experience working in or with business development is preferred. Significant experience in complex transactions as well as in roles focused on biotech partnering / product licensing, academic tech transfer, platform technology acquisition, and/or discovery stage research collaborations is needed. Should have understanding of scientific principles and the drug development process.
