Managing Assoc Gen Counsel / Managing Assoc Gen Counsel Senior Duties for Managing Assoc Gen Counsel Senior- Supporting Medicare Business: Responsible for providing leadership and strategic oversight for all aspects of the assigned legal area(s). Additionally, is responsible for providing in-depth knowledge of a legal specialty or area of law to provide advice and recommendations to executives and management on highly complex matters which have a broad organizational impact and high level of risk. Partners with clients to drive strategic outcomes and make complex decisions. Leads legal projects which have a broad organizational impact and high level of risk. Primary duties may include: Creates legal strategies aimed at supporting the business objectives of assigned client groups and the company. Oversees and leads ongoing litigation and legal initiatives. Responsible for managing a team of attorneys and/or paralegals who provide legal support for clients. Accomplishes strategic business results through assigned legal staff. Serves as an expert for other attorneys and paralegals as well as business clients instructing and advising on strategic, technical and tactical issues. Sets objectives for assigned legal team to ensure the clients and the company's business strategy are achieved. Provides concise and timely briefings to senior level business and upper level legal management. Works on extremely complex and multifaceted problems in which analysis of solutions and/or facts require an evaluation of intangible variables. Develops methods, approaches and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Manages and participates in extensive research of legal principles and precedents and consults with outside counsel on legal strategies on particular issues. Assesses and mitigates risk on the most difficult and challenging issues and manages high-level organizational risks. Duties for Managing Assoc Gen Counsel Supporting Medicare Business: Responsible for directing the legal functions of assigned areas and managing a team of attorneys and/or paralegals who provide legal support for clients. Additionally is responsible for providing legal advice and recommendations for actions. Develops and executes initiatives and projects in response to clients overall objectives and needs. Focus of work is on large scale and/or high financial level projects with broad department and/or organizational impact and moderate level of risk. Works as a strategic partner and decision maker with more senior leaders. Primary duties may include: Accomplishes results through assigned legal staff. Develops assigned staff to ensure their individual effectiveness. Provides guidance and leadership on more complex legal issues in which the analysis of situations and/or facts require an in-depth evaluation of various factors. Serves as a resource for other attorneys and paralegals as well as business clients instructing and advising on technical and tactical issues. Sets objectives for assigned legal team that align with the clients and the company’s business strategy. Provides concise and timely briefings to senior level business and upper level legal management. Manages the staffs work load. Applies knowledge of one or more legal specialties with sound business acumen and knowledge of the business goals and objectives as they relate to the legal matter at hand. Determines overall methods and procedures on new assignments and may coordinate legal projects. Contributes to overall results of an SBU or CEE unit and/or department. Uses professional legal concepts and principles to contribute to development of company’s concepts and principles and to achieve objectives in creative and effective ways. May possess deep technical knowledge or broader scope of knowledge. Demonstrates the ability to effectively assess and mitigate risk on all legal initiatives and projects of assigned staff. Reports to upper management any identified business exposure and associated risks as well as mitigation techniques being utilized. Hires, trains, coaches, counsels and evaluates the performance of direct reports.
Qualification and Experience
Requirements for Managing Assoc Gen Counsel Senior- Supporting Medicare Business: A JD degree; current license to practice law; 15 years of specific industry and/or technical legal experience post licensure including experience in managing a staff, department budget and outside counsel; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.
