Profile

Senior Counsel Duties: Reports to Vice President, Legal & Risk Management. Works Closely with Members of Legal & Risk Management, Business Development, Clinical Operations, Business Operations, Finance and senior management of relevant SBUs and functional units. Negotiation, drafting and review of commercial contracts – world-wide scope, with primary responsibility for US and EMEA. Establish strong, collaborative relationships with team members responsible for commercial contracting, including Business Development, Clinical Operations, Business Operations and Finance. Provide expert-level legal advice and support to SBU and functional unit senior management. Review, draft and negotiate contracts with global pharmaceutical clients. Provide oversight and supervision of the review, drafting and negotiation of contracts with global pharmaceutical clients. Ensure that the contracting process (i.e. the review, drafting and negotiation of contracts) results in high-quality contracts that are completed in a quick and efficient manner. Ensure that the contracting process generates client goodwill that can be used as the foundation for a long-term, collaborative relationship. Provide high quality legal advice in support of the Company’s clinical operations activities. Support the Company’s ethics and compliance activities. Manage risks through counseling and practical application of Company policies, processes, guidelines and procedures. Maintain a positive, “results-oriented” work environment, building partnerships and modeling teamwork and communicating to the team in an open, balanced and objective manner.

Qualification and Experience

Qualifications: JD Degree and Bar Admission Required. 10+ years professional experience as an attorney, preferably a combination of large (international) law firm training and 5+ years in-house experience with a global pharmaceutical company or global CRO. Ability to analyze complex business and legal issues/risks in order to advance practical solutions. Excellent leadership skills. Superb legal drafting skills, with affinity for using language to achieve compromise. Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Ability to take a business and client-focused approach to work. Value the importance of teamwork, as a team leader and member. Able to manage and engage subordinates in order to improve performance and achieve objectives. Initiative, enthusiasm, and resourcefulness. Independent worker and self-starter. Ability to manage and prioritize multiple and varied tasks with enthusiasm and attention to detail.
