Senior Legal Counsel The candidate will be responsible for providing comprehensive corporate, regulatory and commercial legal advice across multiple jurisdictions in Central and Emerging Europe and Russia/CIS countries to business development, compliance, operations teams, corporate business units and senior management of the organisation. Will provide general, commercial legal and regulatory advice to various departments across organisation including sales, operations, marketing and compliance. Prepare, review and negotiate commercial agreements with existing and potential business partners in multiple jurisdictions providing services under different business models, including agreements for the standard/new products, marketing, agency, production, professional services, telecommunication and customer support, employment and consumer contracts. Provide robust regulatory advice associated with the operational issues of the licensed entities in the respective territories; liaise with the local regulator as may be required. Advise and collaborate closely with the compliance department on Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Fraud requirements in the relevant jurisdictions, participate in policies reviews and development, and risk assessment and risk management initiatives. Manage outside counsel in multiple jurisdictions on international regulatory research assignments, contract reviews, advertising and marketing restrictions and data protection laws. Collaborate closely with the data privacy team to ensure compliance with applicable data protection and privacy requirements in the relevant jurisdictions and firm policies and procedures and security requirements. Oversee and manage litigation process with outside counsel. Assist with the mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures projects as required. Review proposed advertisements and marketing materials (print, radio, TV) to ensure compliance with local laws and company advertising guidelines. Address general ad-hoc legal queries from internal business stakeholders and senior management. Actively participate in the development and adherence with the standard departmental procedures, ensuring projects are compliant with internal policies and procedures, maintaining appropriate internal controls and involving appropriate departments as may be necessary. Assist with the know-how, professional development and knowledge management needs of the legal department. Assist with the development of standard departmental procedures designed to facilitate each of the identified responsibilities, while maintaining appropriate internal controls and involving all appropriate departments and areas of responsibility. Manage a team of lawyers providing legal support to this region, ensure that skills and potential of the team members are maximised, motivation is maintained and a professional approach is adopted at all times. Ensure that roles and responsibilities are clearly defined and clear objectives and priorities are set in line with corporate goals. Serve any other ad-hoc duties as directed by line manager.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should be admitted to practice law in Germany, UK, or US with 8+ years of pqe. Significant international commercial and corporate legal experience gained at a reputable international law firm or within the legal department of a company involved in the provision of services across multiple countries essential. Experience gained from working in a regulated sector and interacting with regulators is an advantage. Previous team management experience where this has included supervising the work of junior lawyers and paralegal resources essential. Fluency in German and English languages is a must.
