Senior Specialist 1 - Licensing and Trading Duties: Assess patent portfolios for licensing opportunities. Develop patent licensing, assertion and technology transfer programs/strategies. Lead cross functional teams to assess intellectual property assets (i.e. patents). Work with technical experts to understand technologies taught in patents and assist in building technical claim charts for legal review. Utilize business, program management and knowledge of intellectual property law to identify and progress program opportunities to resolution. Lead development of patent licensing strategies working with other patent asset managers, program development managers, negotiation team, patent legal staff, finance, business units and research labs. Characterize existing patent portfolios for identification of new patent assertion opportunities; identification of patents related to technology transfers; and assessment of competitive threats. Manage GE Licensing portfolio to include patent maintenance decisions, patent investments and engineering of existing portfolio. Work with business units and research centers to identify patents of merit and develop counter-assertions. Perform IP valuation at the portfolio level – identify, acquire and maintain target product data; create and maintain standard valuation process. Perform risk/reward analysis of opportunity sets. Utilize program management skills to prioritize licensing opportunities, manage patent reviews and work with cross functional teams. Manage / maintain patent analytic tools and data services. Identify / build portfolios aligned with corporate initiatives.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in engineering or physical/biological sciences with 6+ years' experience in intellectual property licensing experience including: patent portfolio management and valuation; patent and patent claims analysis; program management; technology assessment and patent mapping or High School/GED diploma with 10+ years' experience in intellectual property licensing experience including: patent portfolio management and valuation; patent and patent claims analysis; program management; technology assessment and patent mapping or equivalent military experience. Graduate degree MBA/JD/MS/PhD desired. 10 years of experience in intellectual asset management; technology assessment and patent mapping; patent portfolio build desired. 4+ years of experience program management with the ability to lead multiple projects at a time desired. Experienced in leading teams in matrixed organizations. Strong working knowledge of the English language (oral and written). Proven ability to manage complex initiatives across multiple teams/platforms. Must have demonstrated project management skills. Proven quantitative and analytic skill set. Strong PC proficiency (Microsoft Suite including: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) or comparable software application. Demonstrated proficiency assessing project risks and prioritizing mitigation plans to meet timelines. Substantive knowledge of intellectual property law. Demonstrated program management skills. Strong track record of understanding and interest in current and emerging technologies demonstrated through training, job experience and/or industry activities. Strong team player - collaborates well with others to solve problems and actively incorporates input from various sources; has experience working with others on a global basis; applies knowledge to coach and mentor others. Strong analytic and problem solving skills - communicates in a clear and succinct manner and effectively evaluates information / data to make decisions; anticipates obstacles and develops plans to resolve; creates actionable strategies and operational plans.
