Profile

Legal Counsel Duties: Reviewing, drafting, and negotiating of professional services (engineering, architecture, environmental, and other technical services) and other industry related agreements. Investigating and managing first and third party claims. Retaining, managing and supervising outside counsel. Preparing reports, memoranda, correspondence, and other documents, as necessary. Working cooperatively with diverse group of professionals, including the company’s executives, attorneys, risk and insurance managers, engineers, scientists and contracts staff, as well as the ability to work with attorneys for external clients and subcontractors, risk managers, project managers, procurement and contracts staff, and others. Providing support to multiple offices. Using online databases to document work and maintain updates.

Qualification and Experience

Requirements: JD Degree from an accredited law school. Admission to the bar in any state or the District of Columbia. 3+ years of construction law experience, which may include drafting and negotiating agreements for engineering and/or other service based contracts, and/or handling claims and litigation related to engineering or construction projects. Strong contract negotiation and drafting skills with substantive expertise with key provisions of most contracts. Ability to communicate and negotiate with customers to resolve discrepancies and disagreements effectively. Ability to work within the hierarchy and matrix of a large organization. Self-driven and resourceful with ability to achieve goals independently and in groups. Flexibility to adjust and thrive in a fast-paced environment with changing requirements, demanding schedules and priorities. Ability to generate ideas, make recommendations, and follow-through on action items. Excellent writing, presentation, and meeting facilitation skills. Proficiency in common computer programs (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point). Solid background in contracts for engineering and other technical/professional services and related disputes Excellent business sense and judgment, well developed analytical problem-solving abilities, and solid interpersonal and relationship skills. Proficiency in Spanish is required. Bankruptcy experience preferred.
