Profile

Business Development Transactions Lead (Director) Duties: Responsible for the identification, evaluation and execution of Business Development (BD) opportunities related to assets, technologies and companies that would support Shire’s strategy in Rare Disease and Hematology/Oncology. Responsibilities include opportunity identification, transaction planning, analysis, negotiation, and execution, for all forms of product acquisitions including in-licensing, product acquisitions, joint ventures, co-promotions, distribution agreements, and corporate mergers and acquisitions. Requires extensive interaction with internal cross-functional team and the external biopharma community. Requires presentations to senior and executive management. May be asked to support or lead other priority projects on an as-needed basis. Sources, prioritizes and reviews new opportunities. Provides recommendations based on scientific/technical merit, financial considerations, and strategic fit consistent with the strategic direction of the Business Unit (BU) and company. Establishes and maintains relationships with key individuals in transaction candidates. Attends and delivers presentations at key industry and partnering conferences. Works closely with Due Diligence team to manage cross-functional evaluation process with internal experts including scientific, clinical, regulatory, CMC and IP professionals to identify key questions, issues and recommendations. Works with Commercial Assessment, Due Diligence, Finance, and external parties (investment banks and advisors) to develop recommendations on target opportunity, forecasts and valuations. Works with Legal and other members of the transaction team to lead or, participate in, negotiations of term sheets and contracts. Drives problem-solving on any business issues. Lead or participate in presentation of new opportunities to governance teams and executive committee. Supports strategy initiatives for Rare Diseases and Hematology/Oncology. Partner with BU leader to achieve BU goals.

Qualification and Experience

Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree required; advanced degree in Science a plus. MBA or JD Degree preferred. 8+ years of biopharmaceutical transactional, consulting, or strategic experience required (BD experience strongly preferred). Demonstrated track record of leading/ supporting cross-functional teams in opportunity evaluations or leading transaction teams required. Experience with financial analysis and valuation of biopharmaceutical products and companies and Excel/modeling skills required. Market research experience required. Thorough understanding of global drug development, regulatory processes, and commercialization concepts preferred. Experience in a global environment with a demonstrated knowledge of US and International markets preferred. Experience preparing and delivering presentations to senior management, Boards of Directors, and at external conferences, preferred.
