Associate General Counsel The candidate will primarily be responsible for providing day-to-day management oversight, advice and resource management for prosecuting or responding to all pending and threatened civil litigation, regulatory proceedings and other disputes (collectively, “disputed mattersâ€) involving the company, including disputed matters involving employees, students, business partners and governmental authorities. Provide senior management leadership and advice in connection with all pending and threatened disputed matters, including directing the law firms and other service providers involved on company’s behalf in those matters. Ensure timely periodic reporting to senior management on the status of all disputed matters involving the company. Ensure timely and effective responses to all subpoenas and similar compulsory third party information requests served on Delta and its controlled affiliates. Provide timely and effective situation-specific advice to corporate and campus management in connection with requests for accommodation and other matters arising under federal, state and local civil rights and similar laws. Conduct, or direct the conduct of, internal investigations of employee or student complaints, business partner inquiries or similar matters identified by senior management. Ensure timely identification and remediation of any process flaws or compliance deficiencies arising out of disputed matters, information requests or investigations. Create and deliver relevant training to corporate and campus management. Identify as early as possible all changes in federal, state and local law and other external developments affecting company’s approach to disputed matters, and designing and ensuring implementation of actionable, effective responses to those developments. In collaboration with the General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer, provide timely and effective advice in connection with general business activities such as facilities leases, goods and services procurement and corporate finance matters. Bachelor’s or higher degree from an accredited college or university in the United States required. Juris doctor or higher degree from an accredited law school in the United States and 6+ years of litigation and related experience in a law firm or corporate legal department in the United States (experience in the legal department of a postsecondary educational institution is preferred) required. Passion: for the practice of law and the legal counseling of clients; for the education of postsecondary students, and equal passion for fulfilling the legal and ethical obligations of a high-performing institution of higher education required. Concise, effective speaking and writing styles; strong organizational, project management and analytic skills; strong attention to detail required.
