Staff Counsel The candidate will work independently with a wide range of internal clients regarding availability, protection, enforcement and licensing of trademarks, as well as protection, enforcement and licensing of copyrights worldwide, while working in a team environment with other trademark and copyright professionals. Focus on supporting the company’s global enterprise telecommunications, IT and security solutions; telematics solutions; and new technologies businesses. Conduct trademark legal clearance searches and rendering availability opinions to clients. Prepare and file trademark applications, prosecuting trademark applications and maintaining trademark registrations. Prepare and file copyright certificate of registration applications. Handle trademark oppositions and cancellations. Work in a cost-effective way with outside counsel. Develop initiatives for the reduction, control and budgeting of outside counsel costs. Create and maintain templates and processes that are effective and efficient. Review and draft various trademark and copyright agreements, including licenses, assignments and general releases, as well as settlement agreements. Counsel all levels of clients on all aspects of trademark and copyright practice. Analyze potential infringement situations and assisting in assertion of rights. Coordinate with other trademark and copyright professionals about enforcement matters, including dispute resolution, administrative actions, arbitration proceedings and litigation. Provide metrics to management. Assist in developing educational and compliance training programs regarding trademarks and copyrights. JD degree plus at least 4 - 7 years of substantive trademark and copyright law experience required. Experience in trademark and copyright matters with an emphasis on clearance, prosecution, maintenance and enforcement of trademarks, and protection, enforcement and licensing of copyrights required. Strong oral and written communication skills required. Excellent research, writing and oral communication skills required.
