ProfileSenior Counsel The candidate will report on a solid line basis to the Vice President, Associate General Counsel for Global Businesses, and on a dotted line basis to the Senior Vice President, Chief Science and Technology Officer. This role operates as the chief counsel for the Global Science & Technology organization, the single point of contact for all legal matters, and will work with other senior attorneys dedicated to individual global businesses and other legal functions such as intellectual property, as well as clinical, medical, research and development, health economics and patient safety professionals around the world. Responsible for providing legal guidance and counseling, both strategic and tactical, to members of the Global Science & Technology Team, and to members of the legal team who have nuanced questions in the areas of clinical trials, human factors studies, and health economics in particular. Responsible for interpreting, negotiating and drafting a variety of agreements related to the areas handled by the Global Science & Technology Team. Clinical study/trial and human factors agreements are a particular focus with respect to contracting. Other agreement types within the sphere of responsibility for this role are: various business development deal structures involving clinical aspects and/or licensing of technology, patient consents, investigator-initiated trials, sponsored research, material transfers, clinical supply, collaboration/partnering/joint research and development, confidentiality, contract research organization, laboratory service, research and development/medical/clinical services. Provide advice autonomously to management personnel. Be knowledgeable about various business strategies and legal issues related thereto and proactively identifying and solving business issues with respect to Global Science & Technology matters. Independently identify and drive development of discrete legal strategies for business units/functions with respect to Global Science & Technology matters. Lead working teams autonomously and driving working teams to resolution/decisions in a timely and thoughtful manner. Work collaboratively with Global Science & Technology and Legal Department colleagues. Lead and participate in project teams addressing highly complex issues and matters of diverse scope. Identify approaches to streamlining and improving work flows, and training and empowering business colleagues. JD or international equivalent from a nationally or internationally recognized institution and 15+ years of relevant professional experience in a high-caliber law firm or comparable corporate environment required. Experience: in drafting and negotiating complex clinical trial and healthcare provider agreements; in the pharmaceutical or device industry, with working knowledge in one or more of the following areas: intellectual property, laws/rules governing HCP interactions, and/or privacy required. 10+ years of experience in clinical study/trial and human factors agreements required. Excellent written and oral communication skills required.
