Corporate Counsel The candidate will provide research, advice and other legal assistance to various individuals/departments within the company. Independently advise business units on matters requiring developed legal and counseling skills in one or more specified areas of expertise, specifically in the areas of contract negotiation, regulatory and compliance review and litigation support. Prepare and review drafts and final copies of legal documents and correspondence within an assigned area and within the scope of developed legal expertise, including products and customer contracts. Analyze and prepare drafts of complex legal documents and correspondence as part of a project team with senior attorneys and management and modifies documents, as required. Identify issues, conduct legal research, analyze the law, prepare memoranda, and advise internal clients regarding multiple issues requiring developed skills in specified areas of expertise. Perform customer dispute resolution and provide litigation support. Respond to inquiries from regulatory agencies, customers and business community. Anticipate and mitigate potential legal problems within the assigned vertical. Develop strategies to avoid litigation and reduce potential areas of risk. Negotiate and/or approve changes to legal documents requiring an intermediate level of expertise. Manage assigned projects to completion. Assist more senior attorneys and management in higher level matters, as needed. J.D. degree from an accredited law school required. 5+ years of relevant experience in a law firm or corporate legal department; in-house corporate legal department experience preferred. Spanish or Portuguese language proficiency preferred. Excellent verbal and written communication skills required. Experience in handling regulatory matters, including GLB, DPPA, FCRA and HIPAA preferred. Practicing law in the insurance industry experience preferred.
