Regional Counsel The candidate will Oversee and coordinate all region’s legal matters with emphasis on land acquisition. Advise Regional President on all acquisition matters involving the divisions within the region. Provide legal advice related to land acquisition and development, including reviewing and drafting contracts and related documents, consulting and coordinating with Company personnel and outside counsel, as necessary. Review due diligence related to land acquisition and development, consulting and coordinating with Company personnel and outside counsel, as necessary. Review and provide legal advice on home sale contract documents; provide legal advice regarding RESPA and other compliance matters. Review marketing materials and programs; draft documentation as necessary. Coordinate with Corporate legal counsel, as necessary. Review and revise subcontractor contract documents, provide legal advice related to disputes. Coordinate with Corporate risk manager regarding safety programs, policies, and safety issues including OSHA. Provide advice regarding employment matters and issues; assist in drafting job descriptions; handle disputes, draft policies, involve outside counsel as necessary. Provide advice regarding legal issues in construction and warranty. Assist in managing region litigation, including coordination with outside counsel regarding active and potential litigation matters, provide documents and information pertinent to active or potential litigation. Provide advice regarding various other region matters. May directly supervise 1 or more employees in the Legal Department. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Juris Doctoral degree (J.D.) required. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups and/or boards of directors required.
