Commercial Counsel The candidate will be responsible for working in close partnership with individual business units and cross functional teams to provide legal and regulatory guidance and negotiate commercial contracts as company develops, implements and updates its products and services, and enters into new business relationships. Primary Responsibilities: Negotiate master agreements with company’s customers, and technology contracts with vendors; Continuously improve standard form agreements and legal processes to help scale the legal function; Provide timely, concise and business-focused legal advice on payments law impacting company’s contractual relationships; Instruct and manage outside counsel, as necessary; Handle other matters as required to support the business.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have JD degree and 5+ years of experience practicing either in-house (or in an equivalent setting) or at a reputable law firm, with 2+ years working in or advising companies in the payments space. Should have a working knowledge of laws impacting the payments industry, including federal and state consumer financial and protection laws and regulations like, Regulation E; Regulation Z, BSA/AML, UDAAP, and data privacy laws. Strong track record negotiating a range of complex commercial agreements, including sales, IP licensing, partnerships, and marketing. Ability to handle multiple assignments simultaneously, with effective resolution of conflicting priorities. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Admitted to a state Bar. An experienced, solution-oriented and proactive attorney with experience in the payments space. Proven ability to proactively support sales teams and direct all aspects of the contract management cycle. Experience analyzing and advising on a wide range of issues related to the payments industry, with specific expertise on prepaid and credit products.
