Claims Attorney The candidate will be responsible for the competent, ethical, objective and diligent consultation to claims clients/customers in all assignments by supervisor. Audit and coverage assignments can involve a multitude of insurance claim dispute areas, including multi-party and bad faith allegation suits. Responsible for handling matters of moderate to great complexity and/or financial consequences, and may assist in the handling of matters assigned to other attorneys. Handles audits and other assignments of moderate to great complexity and/or exposure, including review and analyses of outside attorneys' billings, work product files and quality of lawyering; conduct interviews, attendance at negotiation and strategy conferences, and arbitrations, and performance of any other tasks or duties necessary for the proper servicing of claims clients. Consults with and renders opinions to members of the Claims Departments regarding insurance policy questions and questions concerning the legal aspects of the handling of property/casualty claims. Provides direction to professional staff members who have been requested to assist the Claims Attorney in the handling of particular cases. Keeps supervisor informed of the work being done for clients and of any and all problems encountered. Performs other functions as assigned. Should have four year college degree, law school degree, (Doctor of Jurisprudence) from a State Bar Association accredited law school, and member in good standing of any State Bar. Must have 5 years of claims litigation and/or lawyer auditing experience, including handling matters of moderate to great financial significance and/or complexity with minimum supervision, or comparable outside legal experience. Must possess excellent research skills and have at least five years of coverage experience. Should have public speaking, ability to function in adversarial or confrontational situations, together with negotiation and persuasion skills.
