ATTORNEY II Duties: Provide a continuum of services from information/referral to legal representation. Provide services statewide, primarily in the Protection & Advocacy for Beneficiaries of Social Security program and the Client Assistance Program, addressing barriers to employment, employment discrimination, issues with reasonable accommodation, and issues with employment services and vocational rehabilitation. Provide advocacy and legal representation to the Project’s clients, researches and assist non-attorney staff in representing clients, provides information and training to staff, consumers, parents, and other professionals on legal rights issues, and provides legislative and systemic advocacy on behalf of people with disabilities.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: Juris Doctorate degree, 2+ years of work experience as a licensed attorney, and licensure to practice law in the state required. If unable to find fully-qualified candidates, will consider filling this position as an Attorney I, which requires a Juris Doctorate degree and licensure to practice law in North Dakota. Hiring salary range for an Attorney I is $4,667-$5,445. Work experience (beyond the minimum qualifications) providing legal representation to individuals in administrative hearings or civil proceedings in state or federal court required. Work experience involving research and written analysis of complex statutes, rules, and regulations required. Demonstrated: knowledge of federal and state law with substantial relevance to people with disabilities; knowledge of federal and state laws related to employment; knowledge of laws related to vocational rehabilitation and other employment services required. Experience participating on issue-focused committees, task forces, workgroups or other groups seeking systemic changes required. Work experience that involved preparing and presenting testimony to legislative and/or regulatory bodies or other involvement in the legislative process – state or federal required. Training and experience in Conflict Resolution or Alternative Dispute Resolution preferred. Deadline: August 31, 2017.
