Mortgage SVP Counsel Duties: Responsible for providing legal support for the Residential Mortgage Division, including regulatory, contract, secondary market, and general operations and sales support. Assists the business with escalated and/or regulatory consumer complaints, and litigation-related and other legal process matters. Advises Cole Taylor Mortgage senior leader on federal and state regulatory, compliance, and related legal matters. Assists with the development, maintenance, and communication of policies and procedures relative to the residential mortgage lending business, with emphasis on regulatory matters. Provides counsel and support on the effective mitigation of legal risk for the residential mortgage business. Prepares, reviews, and analyzes contractual agreements, memoranda, and other related documents. Performs additional responsibilities as needed.
Qualification and Experience
Requirements: J.D. degree and a license to practice law in the State of Michigan or a state with reciprocity. 10+ years legal experience, including mortgage industry experience. Thorough knowledge of banking compliance and regulatory requirements. Relationship management skills and ability to interface confidently with team members of all levels. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Proven ability to collaborate with all levels of leadership. Detail oriented and highly organized. Ability to apply regulatory requirements to business processes and new initiatives. Effective analytical skills with ability to identify issues and opportunities to mitigate and minimize risk.
