Assistant General Counsel Duties: Responsible for providing a broad range of commercial legal support for operational and corporate services issues, advising on a wide range of general commercial contracts of all sizes, including outsourcing, HR and Benefits, consulting services, facilities management contracts, marketing and agency contracts, travel related contracts, consultancy and other services arrangements, special events, and other related commercial contracts. Assisting with the revising of current, and development of new procedures, precedents and related ways of enhancing the provision of legal support, particularly in relation to supporting the Procurement function. Understanding and ensuring that contracting arrangements are consistent with applicable policies. Working with other commercial lawyers when engaged. Must be strong leader, capable of leading negotiations and assisting more junior attorneys on the team. Both in a support and solo role, will partner with Procurement and business representatives to lead negotiations of such agreements, many of which may require implementation across multiple jurisdictions. Scope of responsibilities may involve assisting in training of Procurement and development of contracting tools and efficiencies.

Qualification and Experience

Qualifications: US-qualified lawyer with 10+ years of proven IP and general commercial transactional experience. Experience in the financial services industry required. Experience with technology agreements (software, hardware, SaaS/cloud/hosting) is a strong plus. Excellent understanding of applicable USA legal and regulatory obligations applicable to the financial services sector in the context of technology and commercial contracting and processes, as well as strong working knowledge of data protection and privacy laws, and other legal requirements, that may come into consideration with respect to global contracting. Highly skilled negotiator and team player who can actively work with the businesses to engineer pragmatic solutions to a wide range of challenges, while balancing the need to comply with many legal, regulatory and internal policy requirements. Ability to balance legal risk with commercial needs of the business. Proven ability to work with colleagues in different regions to find solutions across different legal, regulatory and business requirements. Experienced team leader/manager with the ability to train and develop junior staff members with the Tampa legal team as well as deal with escalation queries. Demonstrated ability to organize, pay attention to detail and manage time. Demonstrated ability to engage and complete transactions quickly and effectively, while balancing business expectations with legal and regulatory compliance objectives in an efficient and effective manner. Many of these arrangements are global frameworks, and involvement can begin from the request for proposal stage through to implementation across multiple jurisdictions. Adapt a global model to specific and varied local legal, regulatory and business requirements, often across multiple disciplines. May change as the team evolves and grows.
