Legal - Senior Counsel - Commercial Banking Regulatory Lawyer - AVP Duties: Will join the Commercial Banking Legal team provides transactional and strategic legal support for the various businesses within commercial banking. Will support the development of a library of laws/regulations and legal obligations applicable to commercial banking. The role requires interpreting laws and regulations and evaluating and assessing the impact of such developments on the commercial banking business. In addition, candidates with transactional experience may provide asset based lending and/or equipment financing transactional support and advice to the asset based lending and/or equipment finance businesses. Key responsibilities associated with transactional work would include supporting senior attorneys in reviewing, negotiating and drafting deal documentation. The environment is fast-paced, often requiring that issues be addressed quickly to ensure the Firm remains in compliance with evolving laws and regulations. Primary Responsibilities will include: Actively support development of library of laws/regulations and legal obligations applicable to Commercial Banking. Assist regulatory change management process, including researching and analyzing laws/regulations and statutes to evaluate and assess impacts on Commercial Banking. Become subject matter expert on certain laws and regulations; may provide legal coverage to marketing team. Identify and interpret legal obligations and collaborate with other functional areas to map legal obligations through policies, procedures and other controls. Collaborate with the Business and Compliance and Controls teams to identify and implement policy, process and procedural changes to ensure compliance with changing laws/regulations. Partner with subject matter experts to develop regulatory training materials and on-the-job user guides. Participate in project teams to address regulatory requests and requirements; participate in other legal projects. Assist in developing a disciplined control environment within company; identify and mitigate risks (legal and other); reinforce company's fortress control culture.

Qualification and Experience

Qualification Requirements: A Juris Doctor degree (candidate must be a licensed attorney in good standing (New York or Illinois preferred)) with 2 years of experience at a law firm, in-house legal department at a large bank or financial services company or regulatory agency. Excellent research, writing and oral communication skills, with demonstrated ability to listen and thrive in a team setting and communicate effectively with internal colleagues, clients and prospects, external counsel and other third parties. Knowledge of the legal and regulatory requirements for asset based, secured lending, and/or equipment financing transactions would be a plus. Experience with WESTLAW or similar on-line tools. Effective and efficient problem solver; strong multi-tasking skills; ability to deliver high-quality results under tight deadlines. Strong computer skills (MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and ability to quickly and easily learn new programs. Must have strong organizational, analytical and collaborative skills.
