Job Description Job Title: Legal counsel Job ID: 454998 Job Function: General Counsel Location: UK/Europe Region-SCB Full/Part Time: Full time Regular/Temporary: Return to Previous Page Job Description Key Roles & Responsibilities Liaising with external legal counsel regarding the strategic approach to the conduct of HR disputes and ER issues, critically assessing advice received and implementing the agreed strategy Efficient management of external counsel to deliver best value for the network in terms of costs savings and quality of service and legal support Providing relevant stakeholders with accurate and timely information regarding the status of HR disputes and ER issues Drafting internal ER documentation and precedents Providing thought leadership on ER policies, practices and processes globally Maintenance and advocacy of Group HR policies and practices Advice on employment contracts and maintenance and advocacy of global contractual templates Advice and best practice guidance on regulatory issues affecting staff, particularly relating to remuneration Initiating and participating in projects designed to manage HR legal risk Support for M&A integration, including advice on staff consultation obligations and restructuring Reporting to and participating in key HR and Legal Risk Committees Providing training and assistance with the implementation of best practice in relation to the management of HR Legal Risk across the network KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND CHALLENGES: You will be responsible for overseeing the conduct of and reporting required with respect to an assigned portfolio of material HR disputes and ER issues across the Group You will require good organizational skills in order to assimilate and analyze information regarding the relevant background facts You will require good analytical skills to review the background facts and identify the key legal issues raised by the HR dispute or ER issue You will require excellent communication skills in order to discuss the key legal issues with external legal advisers and to discuss and agree the strategic approach with the internal stakeholders and external legal advisers You will require good management skills to manage the HR legal team resources, including lawyers seconded from the Bank’s panel law firms You will require a disciplined approach towards timelines and tracking all steps required in order to implement the strategic approach SELECTION CRITERIA: Must be qualified to practice as a solicitor or barrister in England & Wales, or equivalent Must have dedicated employment experience in private practice or in-house, including handling complex employment disputes and issues Must have strong analytical skills with excellent attention to detail Qualifications & Skills SCOPE OF ROLE: Management of material employment disputes across the Bank’s global network (materiality being measured by potential financial exposure and/or potential significant reputational or commercial risk) Management of other material Employee Relations (ER) issues globally, including complex disciplinary and grievance hearings, redundancies; entry and exit issues for senior staff Advising business units and stakeholders across the Group upon the conduct of HR disputes and ER issues Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills Ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels and across all areas Ability to work under pressure with a disciplined approach to deadlines Ability to work unsupervised with drive and self-motivation How To Apply You can search and view current opportunities across our organisation and apply immediately by visiting www.standardchartered.com and selecting Careers.
