Attorney, Rights Responsibilities: Be responsible for advising the firm distribution and other exploitation businesses regarding the company’s rights in its entertainment content. Advises a variety of divisions, including domestic and international film, TV, home entertainment and digital production and distribution groups, as well as Universal theme parks, on such issues as distribution rights (including all new media platforms), remake / sequel rights, live stage rights, merchandising / interactive rights and theme park rights. Will focus primarily on advising Rights Group clients regarding distribution and ancillary rights, but may also assist the group’s Rights Counsel in research on remake/sequel and other derivative rights issues. Searching and reviewing existing corporate databases, as well as internet and other sources, for relevant information about titles. Locating and retrieving documents and files needed for rights research. Analyzing contracts and other documents (including complex “scope of the grant†issues) to determine firm's rights in its entertainment products. Analyzing WGA and copyright issues associated with the exercise of distribution and ancillary rights. Drafting responses to clients regarding firm’s rights. Entering rights analyses into the Rights Group’s rights database/application.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: J.D. Degree and Bar Admission. Excellent academic credentials. Familiarity with entertainment contracts; experience analyzing rights in entertainment properties is a significant plus; Ability to perform accurate, complex legal analyses with minimal supervision and with special attention to detail. Experience practicing law. Excellent project management skills. Excellent computer skills with the ability to quickly master new applications. Excellent organizational skills with ability to handle a large workload and meet deadlines under pressure. Ability to communicate clearly, concisely and professionally in both written and oral contexts; Sound business judgment; ability to understand and effectively serve clients’ needs. Ability to be a “team player†and adapt to changing priorities.
