Senior State Content Editor Duties: Assist in the development of litigation content to be published on the Litigation Service and elsewhere on online services. Establish and maintain relationships with external law firm contributors providing litigation resources. Write, edit, and update Illinois-specific litigation resources, including practice guidance notes, checklists, standard forms and policies, and state-specific legal content in accordance with writing style. Write and edit content for companion magazine, The Journal-Litigation. Develop relationships with in-house counsel and groups to ensure that the litigation content is topical and meets their needs.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: 6+ years’ experience working as litigator in a law firm, company or governmental agency, primarily at the state level. Enthusiasm and ambition, with a desire to improve the efficiency of legal services. Keen interest in the litigation process and Illinois state court procedure. A good understanding of the needs and priorities of in-house counsel and the legal market. Familiarity with existing Illinois procedural resources for litigators. A passion for writing and good editing skills, including: very close attention to detail; impressive command of grammar, punctuation, and plain English; and the ability to write about complex legal issues clearly and simply. Knowledge in the following areas is strongly preferred: Illinois state court civil procedure. Federal Rules of Civil and Appellate Procedure. Illinois e-filing rules and procedures. local court procedures (e.g, how to commence an action, how to set a return date). documents required for particular court filings and other litigation events. Experience in the following areas is strongly preferred: Drafting Illinois litigation documents such as pleadings, motions, discovery requests and appellate briefs. serving and filing Illinois state court documents. taking and/or defending depositions. arguing motions and/or other applications before a Illinois court. counseling clients in litigation avoidance, mitigation, management and settlement. alternative dispute resolution.
