Associate Dean, Law Library Duties: Under the direction of the Dean of the University School of Law, will direct and oversee administrative functions in support of law library patrons including students, faculty, alumni and the general public. Planning, organizing, supervising and drafting. Serves on the School of Law, university committees and tasks forces as appointed. Supervises day to day operations of the law library. Directs the Legal Research Program. Develops, implements and maintains the acquisitions policy for the law library including the clinical law library in keeping with American Bar Association Standards. Plans and implements facilities and technology enhancements to accommodate library services and the collection department. Implements personnel policies as required in conformance to university and school of law mandates including the personnel management system, disciplinary actions, etc. Supervises subordinate staff. Develops and implements strategies for staff development. Prepares reports and other materials for the school of law, the university, the American Bar Association, the D.C. Council and other entities as needed. Provides reference and research support to faculty, students and other library users. Develops and implements faculty liaison programs and other services to library users. Coordinates staff, student and internship employees to ensure that library services are available during scheduled times. Prepares and submits procurement requests for library materials and technology. Develops short and long term law library budget and personnel needs assessments for the dean annually. Ensures spending is in conformance with budget limitations. Develops grant proposals to support law library enhancements. Ensures that library facilities, equipment and technology are clean and in good working condition. Represents the school of law in the dean’s absence at faculty and university meetings and functions, with local bar and other organizations and at the national level in other activities.

Qualification and Experience

Requirements: A JD degree from an accredited law school in the United States, and a Master’s of Library Science from an ALA accredited school. 5 years of professional experience with 2+ years of demonstrated administrative library experience. Must be available evenings and on weekends on a regular basis throughout the year. Requires special knowledge of the institution, the Bar Association, educational policy, law library management, collection development, budgeting, acquisition, including procurement of legal research materials, personnel management, facilities management and general administrative principles and practices.
